Let me just start by saying, vacation is so good for the soul!! Cam and I were having a rough few weeks. We were getting so busy and stressed and just needed to take time for us. So a vacation is always a good idea! We wanted it to be a week long and a little bit more of a relaxing vacation when we were planning it at the beginning of summer, but that didn’t happen. We planned our trip to NYC last minute. Literally, we bought our train ticket one way the night before we left. I was at a training that night until 9. Then, came straight home and packed. We left the apartment at 3:30 am to make it to the train. haha! It was crazy but fun.
Day 1
We woke up SUPER early. Ubered (that’s a word now, right?) to DC to get on the train. If you’re traveling and have the option to take the Amtrack, I 100% recommend! Driving sucks. Let’s be honest. The train is so peaceful. There’s no security. There’s a cafe cart. I just really love it. lol
We went straight to the hotel, that we booked while on the train. Check in is at 3, but sometimes hotels have rooms ready early. We dropped our bags off and he estimated that the room would be ready at 1. So we decided to stay pretty close to the hotel and just see what was near. We went and got breakfast from Brown’s bagels. SO good, but also so busy! Then, we went to Macy’s. This Macy’s was HUGE! In DC there’s a 5 story Macy’s, but this one was even bigger. It was so nice! It was basically a whole mall, it had a food court, Gucci store, and Louis Vuitton! You should definitely check it out if you get the chance.
Before we went back to the hotel we stopped a juicology for a healthy and quick lunch. We split an acai bowl, but they also had regular lunch options that looked so good as well. Unfortunately, our hotel room ended up not being ready until a little after 4. :/ This was super annoying and we spent a few hours just sitting in the hotel lobby. The hotel has a restaurant and a bar. The bar didn’t open until 5. While we were waiting for our room we went to another bar that was a few doors down from the hotel and it was alright.
When we finally got into our room, I was able to take a shower and finally get ready at like 5 pm. lol We got ready and looked up dinner options. I don’t know why, but every time we go on vacation Hibachi or some kind of Japanese food always sounds good, so we made reservation at Fuji Hibachi. It was a smaller hibachi place, but it was so good and we had probably the funniest show we’d ever had. I definitely recommend them for hibachi!
After dinner we went to the Empire State Building. Cam loves a good view, so he of course was all about this. It was a lot of fun and there was sort of a museum type thing until you got up to the top. This helped there to be not such long lines. It was soo busy. There were so many people there at night. You can also get a New York Pass that allows you to go to the top for free. You can check it out in the link, but if you’re going to do the touristy things in New York, that is the way to go! You’ll get to see so much and save some money!
DAY 2
It was so nice to sleep in and not have to wake up at 3:30 am. This day we slept in. Then, ubered down to the Chelsea Market. There was a bunch of different restaurants and shops! We stopped at Doughnutery for some good doughnuts and walked around to the other shops. There were some really good restaurants for lunch as well!
After the market, we walked around the area. We stopped at this super cute soap shop. I didn’t expect to buy anything walking in there, but the sales associate had Cam and I tried some products. I fell in love with their Walnut Polisher. It’s sooo soft, but also polishes your skin. I’ve been using it everyday since I bought it! I also really loved their sea salt scrub and will probably being order some of that soon! They have these candles that you can burn and then use the melted wax as a massage oil as well! So cool! I love massages, so we got a couple of those too!
After this we walked around some more and eventually found some lunch. All the cities are so close together and we found ourselves walking into another city very often. We found a pizza place in Greenwich and oh my goodness it was SO good! We got a margherita pizza with ricotta cheese!! We’ve only been home for a week and we’ve already made our own. lol That’s how good it was.
This area was really cool lots of shops and restaurants. We try to share meals on vacation so we can try as many places as possible. We split a pizza then we went to another restaurant a few doors down and got some chips and guac. This was place was like a local chipotle. We sat in the window area and just chilled out for a bit. Those are some of my favorite moments on vacation. After we’ve seen so much and walked so much, I just like pretending like I’m local and hanging out with Cam.
We just kept walking towards more and more shops and eventually we found ourselves in Soho. I love this area! I can’t afford anything, but I did try on a Louis Vuitton. haha This area was really neat. The Gucci store was so big and unique. lol I don’t know how else to describe it. You should just go check it out for yourself, and I won’t spoil it. (:
Next note worthy place that we visited was Taco Dumbo! We went to the Soho location. It’s the cutest tiki bar! We got the basic frozen margaritas. I only drink margaritas, so I’m basically a margarita connoisseur and I approve! They were really good. The place was so cute and just a fun place to go take pictures and just step out of the city life for a minute.
After all the walking and seeing the city, we went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner and our show. We ended up going to this really good Italian restaurant. Cam’s dad actually recommended the restaurant to us. It’s not a normal Italian restaurant, they had some unique dishes which we loved! Whenever we go on vacation we always want to try new restaurants and this place was perfect. Their reviews are incredible.
Finally, what I was most excited for! We went and saw Pretty Woman on Broadway!! It was so so good!! I love going to watch shows on Broadway every time we go to New York. It’s a must have on my list for a New York trip! Something really weird happened this trip though. This lady came in a little late and she was on her phone, so it was a little weird. I ignored it. Then, she got up and went to the restroom I guess. When she came back she somehow fell down the stairs! Literally flipped down on top of people. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. She fell on top of other guests in the audience. One lady got her knee hurt so badly she had to actually leave. The lady who fell stood back up and was able to walk out of the auditorium. Luckily, she didn’t seem to be injured. As they say “The show must go on.” and it did. It was really so good. They picked great actors and actresses to play the part. They hit all the great quotes. It was one of my all time favorite shows we’ve gone to.
I hope I gave you some good ideas for you to do on your next trip to New York!! I’d love to hear what you love to do in New York or what you’re excited to check out next time you’re in New York! Thank you for reading! – Chelseigh
