On Saturday, February 18th, the love of my life asked me to MARRY him! It was such an amazing experience. He tells me every day he loves me, but when he got down on one knee and said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, and showed me a beautiful ring, there was nothing else like it. Now every time I look at my ring (which is all the time), I just remember that moment and how much he loves me. He truly is my best friend and I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else.
The Day it Happened
As some of you know, Cam and I moved to Maryland. We live in the DMV (DC, MD, VA) area. So, when our family and friends from Indiana come to visit they usually like to go see the monuments downtown. My parents and Brother came for a weekend visit. My mom kept saying she wanted to see the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial because they are such an amazing site to see. Seriously, if you have not seen them yet you really should. I had been to the monuments at night and it was BEAUTIFUL! So of course, I wanted my family to see it at night. My mom really didn’t want to go at night, and I thought this was weird. But little did I know she wanted to go sooner because she knew Cam was going to propose!! She didn’t want to wait all day for it and neither did anyone else. I am still glad we went at night. It’s so pretty! And we got some really pretty pictures.
My brother used my phone, his and my dad’s phone were pretty much dead because they played so much Pokémon go. Apparently, there are different Pokémon in different places, so they loved getting special ones here. Because their phones were dead, I didn’t think much of them using my phone to take pictures, but really, they wanted to start a live feed using my Facebook to share the proposal with friends and family. It is sort of a long video because it started at the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial in order to get as many people watching as possible. Cam’s parents were also able to watch the proposal this way. They hooked the phone up to the TV so they could see it better too! I love that they made it live with Facebook. It was a sweet idea.
When we finally got up to the top of the Lincoln Memorial, I knew it was bound to happen soon. My heart was racing. When we were at the bottom my family and Cam was all kind of whispering and being a little weird, so I knew something was up, but when Cam started to give suggestions of where to take pictures and where to go I pretty much knew it was happening. I was so nervous as was he. I was taking a picture with my mom at the top of the Lincoln Memorial and then she switched out with Cam. I was pretty sure he was going to propose, but I wasn’t positive. I really didn’t think he had bought a ring yet, so I was pretty confused as to how he got the ring and when he got the ring. Anyways, we took a picture together and then my dad told us to stay there and that’s when he got down on one knee. I was SO happy. It finally happened and it was on camera and video! AND my nails were still done! I had told him how I wanted him to propose I just had three things I wanted. I wanted my family there, someone to take pictures, and my nails done. He nailed it. Not only did he nail the proposal… the ring is absolutely perfect! When he got down on one knee he said Chelseigh, I love you so much. You make me so happy, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me? PERFECT AND SHORT. So, I could get that ring on fast and kiss him even faster.
We looked at rings when we first moved out here together. I showed him the styles I liked. I fell in love with this ring at Zales. It had my birthstone in it, and it was rose gold. I never knew I would want a rose gold ring. I honestly loved my mom’s wedding ring and that was the style that I originally wanted until I tried on the rings. There are so many different styles! I didn’t think I would want something other than white gold, but this ring sparkled so much in the case I had to try it on! I am so glad I did. Right now, it sounds like he went with the ring I fell in love with, but he didn’t get that exact ring because he is just so perfect. He got the same style and everything I loved about this ring, but he had it customized through Indy Facets who was able to incorporate all of my favorite aspects of the ring I fell in love with, but just tweaked the sizing of the diamonds a little bit. So now this ring is perfect because it is beautiful and he put so much thought into it.
That’s our story! Thanks for reading. I love a good proposal story! Share yours in the comments below! – xoxo Chelseigh
